Arija mated and dream target achieved

Yesterday Arija and I were at Polarullen and Arija and Barusi mated so now we are hoping Arija will give birth to many healthy puppies who will be born about the first of May.The puppies will be ready to deliver eight weeks after they are born. We are hopeing these puppies will become really good working dogs/sledgedogs with a lot of energy. You are welcome to contact us if you are interested in a puppy.

Team Bielkersmils have been to two more competitions after the Nordic championships in Furudal. On the 18-19 february Håkan went to Nornäs with Arija, Delta, Deimos and Corona. They finished as number two in their class, 2x30km nordic style. The dogs own sites are updated with the results. One week later they went to Ryssjön for a new race. This time Håkan went by sledge, 2 x 32,9km (according to the track maker) with Arija, Aijas, Spira, Corona, Corall, Ergo, Delta and Deimos (Aijas was taken out of the team day two since he was showing symptoms of a cold). The team finished as number one and achieved the dream target, going 30km in less than 2 hours, and in a good margin since the track was well over 30km.
The total time of the race was 4hours and 17 seconds.

On Friday Ergo and Corona went for a show in Furudal. Photos and results will come later in their own sites. On saturday and today Håkan has participated in 2x10km sledge with a six team, Arija, Corona, Deimos, Delta, Ergo and Corall. They finished as number two and the dogs in the team now have done the D20+ test.

Today the sun shines, and a few degrees below freezing makes the thin covering of snow to creak under your feet.

During January we have participated in two different races. On 21-22 January, we went to Nederhögen and Håkan competed 2x30km with 4 of our dogs, Arija, Aijas, Deimos and Corall. He went Nordic style 2x30km and both days the time was two hours and eighteen minutes. They passed the D60 test and finished up on second place in the competition. Not bad, 13km / h on average, carrying 54 kg in the sledge.
Next weekend we went again, this time to Lekvattnet. Håkan now went nordic style 2x10km with Arija, Corona, Deimos and Ergo. First day they went at an average speed of 14.3 km / h and the second day, 15.2 km / h. They finished as winners and beat number two with a total of 11minutes. On Saturday, Håkan went nordic style 10km with Aijas who finished the distance in 53:50 minutes, and on Sunday with Arija the same distance at the time 48:21 min. With these results both Arija and Aijas fullfill the criteria for S (Polar) champion.

At last a little bit of snow

I hope you all have had a Hppy New Year and that your dogs haven't been afraid.
At last we have had a little bit of snow and the temperature has been below zero. Some kilometers from home and bit higher above sea level there's more snow, almost 1dm. Unfortunatly not enough to go sledging but enough so the dogs must work really hard as they pull our ATV.

Last thursday Pernilla OW came for a visit. We have had three lovely days, talking about dogs and spending a lot of time with dogs. We also had some time for training the dogs.

New Years gift

Some days ago we had a very nice New Years gift; the result of the hip X ray of six of our dogs. They all had A-hips so we were really happy. Now we know that 15 out of 18 dogs have A-hips and 2 have B-hips. This is a really good result since the chance that 17 randomly chosen dogs will have either A or B-hips is only about 1%. We conclude that the environment during puppy hood is very likely to be very important for the development of the hips.

We have no snow and no ice, but today it has been a bit cold so maybe there will be a bit of winter. A few days before Christmas we had a little bit of snow, but the day before Christmas the rain took it all away. During this period of very bad weather, icy or muddy roads we have been especially happy about the dogyard where we can let the dogs run loose. They play and run just for the fun of running and as one watches them the heart becomes warm and you feel happy.

Quick visit to Åre

On friday we went to Åre by car. The resaon for our visit was that we were going to recieve a diploma for having finished the white ribbon, that is; going from Grövelsjön to Treriksröset in some way without using any kind of vehicle with an engine. This year, in march and april, Håkan and I went from Särna, passing Grövelsjön and going on to Treriksröset. by dog sledge. It was a marvellous adeventure and you can read more about it and se photos if you click on "Expedition with samoyeds in Skanderna".
At the meeting in Åre we were welcomed by Annicka and Torkel Ideström who have started the white and the green ribbon (going from Grövelsjön to Treriksröset in summertime). Invited to the meeting were also Peter Askulv from Klättermusen, Kalle Grahn from Utemagasinet and Elin Engerström who has walked, biked and gone skiing and paddling really long distances. Annicka, Torkel, Peter, Kalle and Elin were the jury that was going to decide if we were going to be awarded a diploma or not. There are several rules that have to be followed so we had to show photos from the tour and tell about it.

It was a very nice meeting and it was especially nice to watch Lars and Nicklas photos and to listen to their stories about their tours. Lars hade walked the green ribbon and Nicklas the white, with dog sledge with Siberian Huskies.

Now it's soon Christmas and we finally had some snow, not enough to go sledriding but the dogs love it and it lightens up the dark evenings.

At last the exercise yard for the dogs is completed. And we are so happy and so are the dogs- Singi and Sarek, the "old dogs" seemed very happy to be playing and running loose as well as the youngsters.

Today we have gone for a twelwe kilometer long trainingtour with our twelwe-team. It was raining and quite windy. The dogs worked fairly good in spite of the bad weather.

Now Fuji has found new owners and will soon move, so we haven't got any more puppies for sale.

Famous Etna has moved

Last week RoseMarie and Beat from Schweiz visited us. They were here to collect Etna. We wish them good luck with their new familymember and we are sure Etna will soon feel at home together with the rest of the samoyed team.

Frost has moved

Yet another puppy has moved. I believe Sälka has noticed that her bunch of puppies has shrunk since she seems a bit more concerned.
Frost has moved to his new family in Norway. He left this morning and has a long trip ahead of him since his new home is in Tronfheim at Hilde, Öjvind, their two sons, the cat and the samoyed female Sita. we wish the faily good luck with their new family member and we are sure that Frost soon will feel at home .

and we are waiting for cooler weather so we can start training properly. Some days ago, in the evening as it was a bit cooler we went for a 12km long trainingtour. The dogs enjoyed it of course, but we know they will like it even better if it's below zero, so now we are hopeing for cooler weather.

So even one more weekend has passed, filled of different chores and dog training. The leaves have fallen and the trees stand all naked. In the evening Jupiter rises and beams brightly on the dark sky next to millions of stars.
Yesterday I groomed both Spira and Birk. The females, who are in the same cage as Birk, seemed to be excited by his new apperance, and I must agree, he did look good.
In the evening, our son Johannes and Håkan went training with eight of the dogs. The temperature was about tern degrees so they weren't to eager to run, hopefully it will be cooler soon.
Today Lotta, Lars and Lexi have visited us to collect Fiery Etna, who will be called Leika. It was so nice to meet them again. Lexi, the daughter of Teusa and Pepper from E-litter, seems to be a very good stepmother.

Yesterday Alexander, Nicole and their two daughters Laura and Leonie came to visit us. They also brought Dakota. We had a very nice evening, talking, of course, about dogs. Today I, Nicole, Leonie, Laura, Delta, Deimos and Ergo went for a walk in the woods. Meanwhile Alexander went running with Dakota. We hope we will be meeting them all soon again.

Today Lexi and her family have visited us. We went for a long walk in the woods and Ergo, Deimos and Lexi played and hunted each other. We also took a short tour with Spira, Arija, Aijas and Lexi in front of our three wheeled bike. Lexi was really working well and seemed to understand exactly what to do. We are looking forward to meeting Lexi and her family again.

Congratulations to C- and D-litter who are celebrating their second birthday

and a remainder to their owners that it's time for their X-ray of their hips.

The past week Pernilla Wickström (the breeder of Sälka) has visited us. We have been washing and drying dogs, preparing them for the three day show in Ransäter. We also went walking in the woods and took some baths.

Right now Håkans sister and her family, including Teusa from A-litter, are visiting us. Yesterday we went picking blu berries. Etna and Ergo cam along and really enjoyed running loose. Ergo fell in love with Tilde, Kerstins daughter, so he was close to her all the time.

Today Håkan and I have ran with Etna, Delta and Deimos. Ten kilometers from our home is a forest with lots of nice paths for running or wallking. The best thing is that there is a lake just nearby so the dogs can go into the water to cool off whenever they want to. It was very good to see that Deimos, who has been ill for along time and hasn't gone training for six months, was in such good condition. Unfortunately there is no photos of Etna since Håkan and she ran ahead all the time.

This evening, a quite wonderful july evening without any mosqutios, Håkan, Etna, Sälka and I went to Acksjön for a bath. Before the bath Etna took the chance to run in the sheep pasture. In only some seconds she had gathered all sheep and they all came running towards me. Even though I was very surprised i managed to take a photo but unfortunately I didn't aim so good so the photo only contains the sheep. At least I think it shows that the sheep are in a great hurry.
Later on Håkan took Etna for a short run and I took Sälka in front of the bike and went to the lake.

Today some of our dogs have tried to herd our sheep. Since it was their first time I believe it went quite good. Hopefully it will work even better in a bigger yard with less bushes and shorter grass.

Nallo really enjoyed himself herding the sheep. He didn't get afraid although the ewe were quite angry and tried to horn him. Unfortunately I didn't get any photo from the herding since I ran behind all the time, to be sure noone got hurt. After herding Nallo couldn't let the sheep out of sight.

Summer holidays

Now we are on summer holidays at Bielkersmils kennel. A good long rest for the dogs, without any training. During the days our dogs mostly lay sleeping in the dog yard and every now and then we take them for a long walk or Håkan goes running with one of them. Some cool evenings we take them for a short run with our ATV.

Now Sälka and Nallo have mated and we are hoping for some puppies at the end of August.

In the meadows around our house grow lots of different herbs and the butterflies seek to find nectar.

Prime bare ground training 2010-04-09

Now the snow has almost gone away in Jonsbyn so today was the first training tour on bare ground.
After having rested scarce fourteen days the dogs were really on the ball and Aijas did brave attempt to get himself into the harness probably because he thought that math was too slow.

with Håkan on the ATV, Arija Aijas in point and the other eight adult dogs behind, they went off in full speed. I ran quickly and brought the camera, got up on the bike and pedaled after them. My almost totally untrained legs soon was really tired and I sweated profusely. I was expecting to see the team in front of me quite soon, but they had really been running fast so I didn't catch up with them until four kilometers. Hakan confirmed that they had worked fantastically well. They had swept past the neighbor's dogs so quickly that none of them had seemed to understand what happened.
After about 5km we gave them water and after about 1km further Hakan made the assessment that there was enough for today and turned homeward.
